Thankful Thursday: One Year and Counting!

That’s right…I’ve been blogging for a whole year. I started this, after some encouragement from a dear friend, thinking that it would be a good way to let off steam, show my farm and talk about my boys. Ha! That didn’t quite work the way I planned, but oh well.

Future Farmer

EJ already knows he has big shoes to fill!

Boy, what a year it’s been! Last year, I talked about harvest, I talked about deer, I talked about school. I was frustrated that we didn’t know what was wrong with George, we traveled a LOT for his medical issues and we spent quite a bit of time in the hospital. And now, here we are…

We finally have a name, our days in the hospital will hopefully be fewer, but at least we now know what we’re dealing with and where to go from here. Our farm is still here, even when Mother Nature threw us some curveballs, and we have not be regulated out of existence…yet.

Life, as I know it, is pretty good. Even with as crazy as it gets. Plus, teaming up with my friends at The Real Farmwives of America and Friends has also been an AMAZING experience!

I never dreamed in a year’s time, that my blog would end up with almost 20,000 hits. That’s amazing to me. And I thank each and every one of you, for coming along for the ride.

I don’t know where the next year will take us, but we’re on our way!

And to celebrate the past year…I have a bit of a quiz and a giveaway for you! So here it goes:

  1. I loved your Father’s day post! Brought me to tears! And also the one about your grandma. Love the blog, keeps me posted in your life! Miss you!!

  2. Val

Congratulations on one year of blogging!

The post you did about your Grandma was very touching. I keep reading Wag ‘N Tales because I admire your strength as a mother and farm wife.

  3. I have only been a subscriber for a week or so, but I liked your post on the freezer corn, I cant wait to start my big garden next season, we are in the process of buying our farm now.

  4. One of my favorites is one of your recent ones when you got home from the hospital and the crop duster crashed on your property. I have had days where I too think that fiction is more believable than the real life I lead! I love following your posts – as a woman in agriculture, a mom of a child with special needs and someone who is truly passoniate about modern day agriculture. Keep up the awesome job.

  5. Congrats on a year blogging – quite an accomplishment. I have just been blogging regularly since April. This is the first post I’ve read, and I did like it 😉

  6. My favorite has been .. How to stay married to a farmer for 10 years. I laughed and laughed. I also liked the Ag Book of the month series to go along with reading month at school. I continue to read, because it is fun to be a part of your lives. Although I have never met you or your kiddos, my husband and I spent 4 years hanging out with Mark and NDSU and love getting to know your family through this blog and facebook. Congrats and keep up the great work!

  7. This one is easy! My absolute favorite post is when you celebrated your anniversary with your hubby of 10 years! Got to love Boss Man! I about died laughing when I read your 10 responses for being married to a farmer. It certainly reminded me of my farmer dad and is getting me ready for my marrying my farmer! Congrats on 1 year of blogging! It has been a great journey and I have LOVED watching your grow this blog!

  8. I am a newly married farm wife and have thoroughly enjoyed reading and learning from your posts! My husband pointed you out in the American News and I have been hooked ever since. Thank you for your dedication to writing.

  9. My favorites….How to stay married to a farmer and the one on grilled cheese sandwiches. I check your blog every morning, keep up the great work, Val!

  10. I have appreciated your blog post on figuring out what was going on w/ your son. Our now 3 yr old youngest daughter was diagnosed w/ CP at 18 months. Thankfully it was easily diagnosed w/ an MRI. My husband is a farmer and any intense therapy we have done w/ her has always been in the Spring during planting or in the Fall during harvest. Now it just makes me chuckle because why should life ever be convenient:) I have appreciated how you add humor to something that is so very serious. Without humor, I’d be a wreck, so thanks:)

  11. I loved the posts with the ag books. I am a teacher and my theme this year is agriculture . . . I have always taught my kids about agriculture here and there but this year I am going all out and teaching about it all year long. So, I love finding new books to share with my students that focus on agriculture.

Congrats on a year of blogging!!

  12. congratulations on a year of blogging! I am a fairly new follower, but I have toatally been enjoying your blog. I would love to win your gift pack.

  13. Hopped over from Gooseberry Patch. I’m a new follower. And I ‘liked’ your facebook page.
I would have to say, after reading over your blog, my favorite post would have to be Aug 26th, Special Request…because it states that George is doing so much better and drinking on his own. That’s great news..Prayer definitely changes things. I strongly believe in the power of prayer! God answers knee-mail!

Congrats on one year…I somehow overlooked mine.
Please enter me in your giveaway…my Crock Pot just bit the dust. I’ve had the same one for almost 15 years!!!

  14. I really enjoyed your father’s day post. I am excited for a chance to win as you celebrate your one year blogging milestone! Congrats!

  15. As myself a mother of 4 I love your optimism and easy recipes! With the weather here in Indiana turning towards a little bit of a chill this week….I think the cheesy sausage and potatoes will be on our menu this weekend!

    Thanks for the blog!

  20. I was reading Gooseberry Patch and learned about your site. I love it and what a way to be grateful for what we have than to be at least thankful on Thursdays. We often don’t take the time we should to be grateful and thankful for all we have been given. I, too, would also love to be one of the grateful winners. God Bless you for opening up your life to us.

  21. Thanks to Gooseberry Patch – I have just become a fan! I am looking forward to reading through your postings and many to come I hope! Thanks for being willing to tell it like it is in your neck of the woods –

  22. I’m a new follower so don’t have a favorite yet but I am enjoying reading your past posts. Told my daughter to jump on and start reading she will get a kick out of reading about the kids.

  23. Hi! Enjoyed reading your blog and plan on coming back again and again..
Would be thrilled to win the crockpot and cookbook
I cook an easy meal in my small crockpot now..everyone’s favorite is pork chops
with onions (sometimes peas and peppers too!) simmered in Golden Mushroom soup.
The meat falls off the bone (which makes our Dog the final recipient of the meal.)
The gravy is all made and potatoes or noodles are all that’s needed. YUMMY!!
    Blessings on you and yours.

  26. Congratulations on your achievement of ONE year!!! I have just recently started following blogs and reading. Found you through The Real Farmwives of America and Friends and Gooseberry Patch. Thanks for the chance to win this giveaway. Take Care.

  27. What a wonderful blog ! I just ‘found’ you the other day and have enjoyed reading it so much.
I have to tell you that “Land of the Free’ really spoke to me. (Sept. 2010) Our local chicken processing plant will close in October. That will put at least 1000 people out of work . And it makes me wonder if we’ll be buying chicken from another country soon ! So many different plants have gone out of business in NC only to open in another country. Sad commentary, to say the least.
The surrounding chicken houses may get smelly at times but I’d rather have that then to see my neighbors without a job.
    Keep up the good work!

  28. I am a new follower (courtesy of Goosberry Patch). I just read your story about the farm tours as a kid. I laughed most of the way through it. I can just picture the look of absolute shock on your grandmother’s (not to mention those on the tour) face! I would have hid as well! LOL I can’t wait to read more of your stories. While I don’t live on a farm, I do live in a mostly farming community.

  29. I am really enjoying your new recipes. I bought groceries to try the chicken dumplings and sausage and potatoes. I am looking forward to trying them.

Love your blog, you are so talented and I love to keep up with what your family is doing,
    Love, Jackie

  30. Love that your thankful Thursday makes me so thankful too! A great friend started blogging a year ago and has done incredible things. I love having had some of the energy to help get you going. It has been a great year despite all the challenges we have faced. I’m guessing that’s in part because we know we are doing something to improve the course we are on.
